Takumi Farm: Our Directly Managed Farm

On our 10-hectare (twice the area of the Tokyo Dome) directly managed farm, we raise chickens and sheep, and grow 40 to 50 varieties of pesticide-free organic vegetables. We call it a style of farming only possible in the country, not the city, and we raise and grow the finest ingredients.

Eggs

At our inn, our eggs are pasture-raised. This is a rare method that is only used for 0.1% of the eggs produced in Japan. We also give our hens highly nutritious feed that is made by blending soybeans with food waste from the inn such as scallops and crab.
The eggs that are produced by these hens are very well received by our guests who say that they have never tasted eggs like these before.

Vegetables and Fruits

On the farm that our inn operates directly, we grow about 40 to 50 types of vegetables and fruits, including potatoes, mushrooms, garlic, chestnuts, strawberries, and onions. Of course, we grow organic vegetables without using any pesticides. We take the orange peels that are produced as food waste and use them to remove contaminants. We also use sheep manure as fertilizer. We insist on serving pesticide-free organic vegetables and fruits.

All of the food waste produced in the facilities is composted at Takumi Farm, which is directly operated by the inn, and utilized to cultivate the soil for organic farming. Since the inn opened, not even a drop of oil has been burned, and there has never been any food waste collected or disposed of by an external party. This is the ultimate eco-friendly traditional Japanese hot spring inn.

Takumi Farm’s Circulating System

Ryotei Kuki aims to be a hotel that’s good for people and the environment by not producing CO2 and waste. Our guest rooms, hotel floors, and the parking’s road heating use natural heat from the hot spring instead of kerosene, gas, or electricity.

At the farm we directly operate, Takumi Farm, we raise vegetables using raw garbage produced from the hotel. Our sheep (Suffolk) and local chickens are raised giving handmade feeds and grass. We raise them in a circulatory ecological way.

We are aiming to be an ideal hotel that’s good for the environment for a gentle and wonderful future with no need for garbage trucks.
